Profile
of a Museum Volunteer: Juan Trevino
Juan
Trevino was born in Texas and moved to Fresno in 1950 where he
graduated from high school in 1968. Twelve days later he joined
the Army. His basic training was at Fort Ord, CA, and he attended
AIT training.
Upon completion
of his training he was ordered to Frankfurt, Germany to Co. A,
317 Engineer Battalion, where he built bridges over the Main and
Rhine Rivers. After a year in Germany he was ordered to Vietnam
but was delayed as his younger brother was already serving in
Vietnam. He was returned to Fort Ord to await further orders.
He was ordered to Vietnam in June 1970 serving in Company A, 5th
Transportation Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. There his unit
picked up infantrymen and flew them to the fields. While in Hue
he became a Specialist 5, in June of 1971 he was honorably discharged.
Upon discharge
he attended Fresno City College and became a mechanic and worked
as such until 1993 when his eye sight became impaired as a result
of diabetes, and he was no longer able to work.
In September
1993, he and his younger brother visited the Legion of Valor Museum
and were amazed at the displays that represented the various wars.
They both became volunteers shortly thereafter. Juan now helps
create displays and is a docent.
